You may have noticed that our Dojo logo states "剣は心なり”(Ken wa Kokoro nari.)It is a simple poem from 島田寅之助(Shimada Toranosuke) who was the famous Kengou(Swordsman) at the end of the Edo Period. Yet, it strikes home when it comes to Kendo's mindset. The translation is as follows; "The sword is the mind
When the mind is right, the sword is right.
When the mind is not right, the sword is also not right.
Those who wish to study the sword must first study their mind." Ok, some people may not get it, and other people may think they got it. It is one of the values Kendo cherishes. It is our Dojo motto that our Dojo, members keep it in mind before practicing Kendo and even make use of it in their daily life.
